On Saturday night (Oct. 22), stars gathered at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. for the 5th annual Wearable Art Gala. Presented by Richard Lawson and Tina Knowles Lawson, through their Where Art Can Occur (WACO) Theater Center, the charitable event funds artistic and youth mentorship programs.
“As we continue to navigate the setbacks of the pandemic, we are excited for the opportunity to gather again in person and garner support for the artists, audiences, and young people that our work serves and will continue to serve,” expressed Richard Lawson in a press statement.
“When we started WACO, only two of our mentees said they might go to college. Now that we have had our first graduating class, all 22 kids are going to some type of university, college or trade school to live out their dreams. We are so proud of them,” added Tina Knowles Lawson.
The Wearable Art Gala was hosted by Keke Palmer and featured a performance from Andra Day. Additionally, the event showcased a musical tribute by Chloe Bailey and Halle Bailey. Angela Bassett was recognized with the Film & TV Icon Award.
This year’s theme was “Step into Harlem Nights,” and the celebrity attendees sparkled and shined in vintage glam-inspired looks. Check out the sequins, tuxedos, and feathers below.
