True to our site’s name, sometimes we catch a vibe with the stars we interview and they drop more gems than we’re able to use. “Outtakes” is a series of excerpts from VIBE profiles, Q&As, and cover stories that we just couldn’t leave on the cutting room floor.

Our recent conversation with R&B trailblazer Babyface could not be limited to his new album, Girls Night Out and its similarities to the Waiting To Exhale soundtrack.

With his latest work of art being birthed from his iconic Verzuz battle, we spoke to the 64-year-old legend about why it was a “perfect car wreck,” and how the late Andre Harrell played a pivotal role in getting it done. The decorated singer-songwriter also discussed finding new inspiration after 40 years, the pressures of social media as a legacy artist, and intentionally embracing the next generation of singers.

Check out the rest of our in-depth chat with Babyface and revisit part one of the interview here.
